Other Home Care Questions

What kind of home care services do you provide?

Heartland Home Health offers in-home non-medical care; services are non-medical in nature. Additional services include mobility and fall prevention products and services.

Does medical insurance cover home care services?

Generally, no. Most medical insurance will not cover home care as it is not considered a medical expense. Other insurance policies and programs may cover home care costs such as public or private “Long Term Care Policies,” Veterans Administration benefit programs, or Social welfare programs such as the California “IHSS” program. Medicare does not typically pay for hourly personal care or non-medical service. Heartland Home Health is fully approved and works with most insurance providers and assists clients with claims processing and reimbursement of home care costs.

Are your caregivers licensed, insured, bonded and trained?

Yes. Every caregiver is licensed by the California Department of Social Services. All employees must complete in-depth screening including criminal history background clearance, medical clearance, motor vehicle background check, and must meet specific training requirements. In addition, all employees are bonded and insured under general liability and workers’ compensation insurance. All caregivers are employees of Heartland Home Health, we do not hire independent contractors.

Can Heartland Home Health help with medications?

Heartland Home Health may assist with medication reminders, tracking and management but cannot administer any medication. Administrating medication is a medical procedure and as such requires additional licensing. Medication management is reviewed upon initial assessment and a medication plan is developed and included as part of the master care plan.

Can I change or discontinue home care services?

Yes. You won’t be bound by a restrictive long-term contract. Changes to your care plan or discontinuing service requires only 24-hour’s notice.

Will I have a choice of who comes to my home?

You will have the opportunity to meet and interview your caregiver before services begin. The person you select will work with you on a consistent basis, and will come to understand your specific needs. We strive to provide complete satisfaction; should a compatibility issue arise with a caregiver, we will work to provide a more suitable match.

Do you have a minimum number of hours required per visit?

Due to caregiver availability, logistics, and demand for services, we require a minimum 4-hour care plan per visit.

What is the cost of in-home care?

Many factors contribute to the cost of care including the number of hours of care per week and the level of assistance required. We will schedule an assessment meeting with you to explain all options and associated cost. Costs range from $14.50-$26.75 per hour. Hourly care cost includes all fees, taxes, insurance, etc.

How do I pay for services, do I pay the caregiver directly?

Clients are invoiced by Heartland Home Health two times per month. Heartland handles all client billing and employee payroll. You never pay caregivers directly and will never be asked to pay an additional fee to any employee. We accept most forms of payment including personal check or through our secure credit card payment system.
